New Details about the Nintendo 3DS

Nintendo held a press conference in Japan tonight to announce new details about the 3DS, including when we will see the device released and how much it will cost.

The Nintendo 3DS will first be released in Japan on February 26 for 25000 yen, or roughly $300 American (ouch). It will then be released in the United States and Europe sometime in March, however no price point has been announced.

Among the new features announced today for the 3DS is an enhanced Tag Mode, which allows users to exchange data with each other without the need to have the game in the 3DS at the time. The 3DS can store and send data for multiple games at once, unlike its predecessor.

Nintendo also revealed the final design of the 3DS (which you can see at the top of this post). Also announced was that the 3DS will have its own Virtual Console featuring original Game Boy, Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance games. It will also come packaged with a 2GB SD card, and users will be able to create custom Mii based off of photos of themselves. Capcom also announced a new Resident Evil and Mega Man game are being developed for the portable device.

Video of The Day: My Chemical Romance Na Na Na

I posted the promo video last week but know here is the "lyric" video for My Chemical Romance new song Na Na Na (Na Na Na Na Na Na) of their new album Danger Days: The True Lives of The Fabulous Killjoys which will be release November 22nd 2010. Enjoy :)

And The First TV Cancellation is.....

Lone Star!

Yes unfortunately FOX officially cancelled the pretty well reviewed drama this morning. After averaging extremely low ratings in its 1st two weeks the 3.2 million airing last night put the nail in the coffin. Lie to Me* which was not expected to begin its 3rd season until later this year, will take over the 9pm slot next week.

First Thoughts: $#*! My Dad Says

$#*! My Dad Says (also known as Shit My Dad Says) is a new TV series based off the twitter feed of the same name. That's right I said twitter feed. The series follows Henry (Jonathan Sadowski) who has just been laid off from his job and returns home to live with his father Ed (played by legendary actor William Shatner) who is a war vet who dosnt quite posses the block to keep whats on his mind from flying out of his mouth. Unfortunately the show is not that great, stiff dialogue and cheesy story destroy the pilot, and how ever good Shatner is in the pilot and he does get off a good line or two, he just seems too young (even at 79) to be playing a 72 year old. The show also is not helped by MAD TV alumni Will Sasso as Ed's other kid Vince and Nicole Sullivan as his wife Bonnie. However I will say most pilots are not that great so i will invest another week or two on the show but it better get its act together fast. New episodes air Thursdays at 8:30 on CBS.

Hot Trailer: True Grit

The 1st trailer for Ethan & Joel Coen's remake of the 1969 film True Grit has hit the Internet. Starring Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon, Josh Brolin and Hailee Steinfeld, the film tells the story of Mattie Ross (Steinfeld) , a 14-year-old girl, who undertakes a quest to avenge her father's death at the hands of a drifter named Tom Chaney (Brolin). Ross persuades an alcoholic marshal named Rooster Cogburn (Bridges) to join her in tracking down Chaney. The film opens on December 25th and looks to be a award season contender, I think this is a perfectly cut first trailer. What do you think?

USA renews several of its series.

USA Network today renewed sophomore series White Collar & Royal Pains for 3rd seasons, Royal Pains 3rd season will consist of 18 episodes while White Collars 3rd season will consist of 16 episodes. USA also today renewed veteran hit PSYCH for a 6th season consisting of 16 episodes.

First Thoughts: Jackass 3D

Last night I was lucky enough to see 7 minutes of footage from the upcoming film Jackass 3D. I was also fortunate to meet Johnny Knoxville & director Jeff Tremaine. Unfortunately you will not be hearing them on an upcoming episode of the podcast as I could not get clearance in time but I will tell you about the footage I saw if you choose to keep reading.

Spoilers follow after photos from the event:

They first showed us what ultimately is the opening of the film with Johnny Knoxville saying welcome to Jackass! What followed was a extremely colorful couple of minutes of mayhem including Steve-O jumping into a ceiling fan, Bam Margera dressed as a cupcake pinata literally getting the candy beat out of him, Preston Lacy taking a canon ball to the stomach and more involving fish, paintballs, fruit and more. All this while the song The Kids Are Back by Twisted Sister played in the background. But the cool part about all of it is they shot it with Phantom high speed cameras, which film at 1000 frames a second so everything was super slowed down so you can see just how powerful the impact of every kick, punch, and hit really was.

The second clip was the Poo Cocktail Supreme. I do not want to get into too much detail because I believe it ultimately will be one of the best segments in the movie, but it involves a feces filled port o potty with steve-o inside attached to bungee cords , that is then shot into the sky. I will leave you to imagine the rest :D

The rest was pretty much the trailer thats been making the rounds except in 3D. Jackass 3D is in theater in 2D & 3D on October 15th.

First Thoughts: Outsourced

The newest edition to NBC's thursday night comedy block Outsourced, is pretty terrible. Based on an indie (no pun intended) film from 2006 the show follows Ben Rappaport as Todd Dempsy a young gentleman who shows up to his job at an American novelty company only to find that the entire office has been fired and the departments responsibilities outsourced to a call center in India.Todd is given the choice to either be fired or go to India to over see the call center. Seeing that Todd has 40,000 in student loans he chooses the later, at this point the show becomes a mess a very offensive unfunny mess filled with stereotypical characters, its surprising given NBC's recent comedies that this made it to air. What could have been a promising series about the cultural divide ends up being divided between poop and vomit jokes and poor writing. Don't expect this series to last long and expect the far superior Parks & Recreation back on the air before the end of the year. Should you choose to watch new episodes air Thursdays at 9:30 pm on NBC.

Video of The Day: HTC EVO vs Iphone 4

Id just like to say i am a supporter of apple products and have a iphone 4, but man this is just too funny.

Cool Deal: Children's Hospital Live Episode

So Rob Corddry tonight on Last Call with Carson Daly announced that the season finale of his adult swim series Children's Hospital will be aired live. Children's Hospital a parody of various medical series such as ER, Greys Anatomy and Scrubs will air the live episode on November 7th at midnight. It is not known if it will also air live on the west coast. The choice to do a live episode seems to be parody of ER's live episode. I will definitely be watching, will you?

First Thoughts: Raising Hope

The new series Raising Hope from Greg Garcia (creator of My Name Is Earl and Yes Dear) premiered tonight. The show which follows Jimmy Chance (Lucas Neff) a 23 year old who is suddenly thrust into fatherhood when he has a fling with a girl who actually turned out to be a serial killer, becomes pregnant and gives birth but is then sent to the electric chair, thus leaving Jimmy to raise his new daughter Hope with his extremely dysfunction family. The half hour sitcom revisits similar themes of Garcia's previous show My Name is Earl in that it follows a poor and slightly uneducated family though their misadventure, but it differs in that even though it has crass humor (a diaper changing scene ends with multiple cast members vomiting on the baby) it still manages to have heart and has you rooting for the main character even though its clear he is really not ready to be a parent. The main character Jimmy played by Neff , however young and totally unprepared to be a parent is determined to take on the challenge and comes off as very likable. The supporting cast features Martha Plimpton (The Goonies) as Virginia Chance (Jimmys mom) who is extremely enjoyable and the always hysterical Cloris Leechman as the extremely delusional Grandmother of the family (a part she plays extremely well). I have already given the series a season pass on my DVR and i suggest you do as well. The show airs on FOX Tuesday nights at 9:00 PM.

Video of The Day: Live Action Pokemon!

I found a trailer for a fan made live action pokemon movie this morning, not bad for fan made decent graphics and what not, also a interesting proof of concept for showing what an actual live action pokemon movie could look like.

Colin Quinn Returning to Broadway?

Update: It's official Long Story Short will run a limited 11 week engagment at the Helen Hayes Theater, October 22nd - January 8th, more info can be found at http://www.colinquinnlongstoryshort.com/ .

Now this might just be an error on telecharge.com's part but according to a listing on their website Colin Quinn's one man show Long Story Short which ran over the summer off broadway at the Bleeker Street Theater will run on broadway at the Helen Hayes Theater from October 22nd-January 8th, 2011. The original off broadway production was directed by Jerry Seinfeld. The show which is 75 minutes long consist of the retelling of the history of the world through the comedic and opinionated eyes of comedian Colin Quinn. I saw the show this past summer and thought it was fantastic but considering its moving to broadway I would hope they will atleast extend the run time to 90 minutes. You can find more information at http://www.telecharge.com/BehindTheCurtain.aspx?ProdID=8311

1st Thoughts: Mike & Molly

It seems outside of TV Lands recent success with Hot In Cleveland, CBS has really been the only channel to be able to make a multi camera sitcom work as of recently and they potentially have another hit with the series Mike & Molly which premiered tonight. Going into watching the pilot I was a little apprehensive, the show is from Two and a Half Men & The Big Bang Theory creator Chuck Lorre. The reason I was worried is because well the shows main characters are both over weight and the show revolves around the title characters meeting in Over Eaters Anonymous and starting a relationship together, and thats where I got scared. I was afraid the humor would be all kinds of wrong and come off as offensive and cheap, however the show was extremely enjoyable thanks in part to Billy Gardell who plays Mike Biggs & Melissa McCarthy as Molly Flynn and their ability to really sell jokes and play extremely likable characters, at a certain point you even seem to forget that they are bigger then what hollywood considers the ok standard for what a actor can weigh. Rounded out by a strong supporting cast with Reno Wilson playing Mike's cop partner Carl and the always enjoyable Swoosie Kurtz as Joyce who is Molly's mother I will definately be adding it to my DVR for the season. New Episodes air Monday nights at 9:30 on CBS.

Shows I am seeing this week...

So this is a pop culture blog, well theater to me falls under pop culture and I love theater and am currently in New York so I am seeing some new productions this week which you will see full reviews of in coming weeks but I thought I would share with you the readers what I am seeing this week.

The Pitmen Painters: transferring from a successful run in London comes The Pitmen Painters, a new play from Lee Hall (Writer of the film & stage version of Billy Elliot) comes the incredibly true story of a group of Ashington (England) miners who ended up being much sought after painters but whom for over 40 years continued to work in the mines but also create masterpieces. The production features the entire original London cast and is being performed at the Samuel J Friedman Theater on West 47th street.

Mrs Warren's Profession: In this revival of the George Bernard Shaw play from 1893, Cherry Jones plays Mrs Warren and her daughter who played by Sally Hawkins is shocked to find out her mothers fortune was made through the running of brothels. The production is currently running at the American Airlines Theater on West 42nd Street.

Brief Encounter: A transfer of the successful Kneehigh Theatre company production in London comes this multimedia play based on the 1945 film of the same name which itself was based on the play Still Life by Noel Coward. It is about taking a chance on romance and the results incurring from it. The production is currently running at Studio 54 located at West 54th Street.

So definitely keep a look out for those reviews in the future.

Lady Gaga's New Album Is Called...

Thought on the Video Music Awards

This years MTV Video Music Awards was probably the most predictable boring VMAs in recent years. Predictably Lady Gaga (who took home 8 awards including Video of The Year) and Eminem (who bailed after he opened the show with Rihanna) walked home with the most awards , Justin Bieber took home best new artist and most of the performances were way too short or seemed small on the huge stage which while very cool was just WAY too big. Also Chelsea Handler seemed very off in her delivery the entire night and most of her "jokes" were more like awful attempts of making people laugh at a roast. This years awards were devoid of the surprise and unpredictability of previous years. I will say highlights were Florence and The Machine making her VMA performance debut and taking home best Art Direction in a Video and Lindsey Lohan making a funny appearance in the opening video as well as a cool performance from Linkin Park at a Observatory. I hope they head back to New York next year as it always seems like the best years are the ones in New York. Below is a complete list of this years winners.
