Shows I am seeing this week...

So this is a pop culture blog, well theater to me falls under pop culture and I love theater and am currently in New York so I am seeing some new productions this week which you will see full reviews of in coming weeks but I thought I would share with you the readers what I am seeing this week.

The Pitmen Painters: transferring from a successful run in London comes The Pitmen Painters, a new play from Lee Hall (Writer of the film & stage version of Billy Elliot) comes the incredibly true story of a group of Ashington (England) miners who ended up being much sought after painters but whom for over 40 years continued to work in the mines but also create masterpieces. The production features the entire original London cast and is being performed at the Samuel J Friedman Theater on West 47th street.

Mrs Warren's Profession: In this revival of the George Bernard Shaw play from 1893, Cherry Jones plays Mrs Warren and her daughter who played by Sally Hawkins is shocked to find out her mothers fortune was made through the running of brothels. The production is currently running at the American Airlines Theater on West 42nd Street.

Brief Encounter: A transfer of the successful Kneehigh Theatre company production in London comes this multimedia play based on the 1945 film of the same name which itself was based on the play Still Life by Noel Coward. It is about taking a chance on romance and the results incurring from it. The production is currently running at Studio 54 located at West 54th Street.

So definitely keep a look out for those reviews in the future.
